Gurjoban Singh Tiwana, a graduate student in the University of Florida’s Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences program, successfully defended his Master of Science thesis titled “Precision Nitrogen and Harvest Management of Silage Corn on Florida Sandy Soils: Integrating Field Instrumentation, Soil-Water Nitrogen Dynamics, and Image-Based Maturity Assessment.”

Advised by Dr. Golmar Golmohammadi, Tiwana’s research addressed two of the most critical challenges facing silage corn production in Florida: optimizing nitrogen fertilizer management to maximize productivity while protecting groundwater, and improving harvest timing through artificial intelligence-based moisture prediction.

To translate the research into practical applications, Tiwana also developed a concept for a cloud-connected mobile application capable of estimating corn silage moisture content from smartphone images, allowing growers to make timely harvest decisions in the field.

With the successful defense of his thesis, Gurjoban Singh Tiwana has completed the requirements for the Master of Science degree in Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences at the University of Florida. His work contributes to advancing precision agriculture practices and strengthening the future of sustainable crop production.

Hydrology Lab Congratulates Gurjoban Singh Tiwana on this significant academic achievement. 🎓🌽🌱
